Stearns County League

Recap for the 06/30/2018 All-Star Game

Preview Recap
A well-played game resulted in a 3-2 Stearns County League win Saturday night in Elrosa.

Pitching and defense dominated the play. Both sides turned double plays and both sides had shut out pitching.  The SCL gone on board first.  Meire Grove’s Kurt Marthaler reached on an error. Walks Elrosa’s Kevin Kuefler, New Munich’s Will Funk and Richmond’s Cole Schmitz force him in. The 1-0 lead coming in the third inning didn’t last long. Watkins’ Kevin Kramer singled and stolen second base, the throw to second went wide and Kramer finished on third base. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Luxemburg’s Isaac Matchinsky.

The SCL came right back in the bottom of the fourth. Marthaler again started the come back reaching on a one out single. Kuefler followed with a double and St. Martin’s Kyle Lieser with a two-out single.  That was pretty much it for the SCL offense, although Spring Hill’s Nate Terres also singled in the game.

The CVL got runners on but did not score until the seventh inning.  Kimball’s Luke Harren opened with a single a passed ball put him at second and he eventually scored after ground outs by Robert Lutgen of St. Nicholas and Justin Kunkel of Pearl Lake. After that Kimball’s Brian Marquardt singled for the only CVL player to reach base.

Jordan Roos of Roscoe was credited with the win and Aaron Vogt with the save. Marquardt and Lieser were the only players with two hits.
