A short history of the Stearns County League

While some of the teams were members of other leagues, including leagues called the Stearns County League going as far back into the 1940's; the "modern" Stearns County League history began in 1950. The first four seasons, the league was known as the Central Stearns League. Beginning in 1954 it then became known as the Stearns County League, and has remained the same ever since.

1950 - The original eight members of Central Stearns include six teams that are still in the league today; those teams are: New Munich, Lake Henry, Farming, Saint Martin, Roscoe, and Elrosa. The other two original teams were Green Grove and Regal.

1951 - Elrosa disbands, but later starts up again as part of the County Line League. Freeport replaces Elrosa.

1953 - Regal leaves the league, and Richmond replaces Regal. Richmond had been a member of the Great Soo League.

1959 - Freeport disbands, but later starts up again as the Freeport Black Sox when the Melrose Black Sox move there in 2005. Green Grove, which had played its games in Greenwald, splits into Greenwald and Meire Grove as Meire Grove builds its own diamond, keeping the league at eight members.

1983 - Elrosa rejoins the Stearns County League and Spring Hill joins as a brand new team, bringing the league up to 10 teams. The league was split into its North and South Divisions that it still has today.

Today the league is now known as:
Stearns County League - North: Elrosa, Greenwald, Meire Grove, New Munich, and Spring Hill

and

Stearns County League - South: Farming, Lake Henry, Richmond, Roscoe, and Saint Martin
